RPO Codes

Postby sonomaguy » Wed Dec 31, 2003 2:13 pm

Anyone know what the RPO code is for the cameo option or if they had one? I was looking at one and wanted to confirm it actually is a cameo. :?:

I don't know about RPO codes but I will tell you this. On my Cameo there are two visual idicators that it is authentic. On the driver's side on the firewall "Cameo" is written in the metal. I guess they may have done this in the factory to signify it going to Auto-Fab Inc. This company actually did the conversion of the S10 to Cameo. It may not actually have an RPO code assoicated with it because it was not done by Chevy. I have some Cameo documentation that says:

"NOTE: Cameo and Camoe EL conversions performed by Auto-Fab, Inc. You must fill out and submit an Auto-Fab, Inc. order form"

Also this documenation details the *required* RPO equipment for Cameo. They are:

RPO D44 Black below eyeline mirrors
RPO N40 Power Steering
RPO QYH White-lettered all season radials
RPO ZJ7 Rally Wheels
RPO ZY1 Solid exterior color

Cameo EL only required:
RPO ZY1
RPO ZJ7 14x6" Ralley Wheels (vs. the 15"x7" wheels above)
RPO QMW 195/75R-14 tires (vs. the 215/65R-15 above)

Also on the driver's side door jam there is a offical Auto-Fab sticker that says it was modified by them and there is a date stamp on there of March 1990 I think. Mine is a '91 Cameo with Tahoe package. Here it is:

Thanks, but it is unrestored! I bought the truck in Dec. '99 from the original owner. It had 41k on it at the time. Unfortunetely it has turned into my daily driver and now has 93k on it. I figure even though it is 1 of 370, it isn't really that desirable by collectors. However, I have always loved the truck.

It really has been a great truck though...only major problem I have ever had with it is the digital instrumentation blew right after I got the truck. Of course, I am pretty good with keeping up on the regular maintenance type stuff.

4 or 6 cylinder?

Nice truck....I'd like to find a Cameo. (Actually did once but it's already gone. :( )
I'm going to put some stickers, an aluminum wing and a 5 inch fart can muffler on my 16 second import, then brag to the world it's the fastest thing on wheels.

i picked up an 89 El.. i have the Auto-Fab sticker.. but i do not see anything other then a scribble in grease pen on the firewall. im pretty confident in that is a true cameo.. but i was curios to see where it was.

Hi I have an 89 cameo 1 of 37 made in 89 cameo is writen on firewall and auto fab sticker in door jam in the glove box one of the last codes should be 5v4 that is the gm code that tells the story I got this info from gm. If you have a 5v4 its a cameo.

well i have the autofab sticker and i have a 5v7. perhaps since mine is the EL, its a 7 instead of a 4? where exactly is it written on the fire wall.. ive been over the firewall looking for it.. there is some writing but its just numbers and such. the only thing i wonder on.. it seems my truck was painted after the fact.. there are many parts of the truck that seem to still be in factory primer.. like in the cowl, under the bed, like it was painted once it got to autofab. is this the case, has anyone else noticed this?
