GM no longer making 5.9 350 Big Block V8

Postby eagle1 » Sun Aug 11, 2002 12:54 pm

What's up,

Guys, I was wondering if any of you have heard why GM is not making the 5.9liter 350Big Block V8. I had a reallly good truck that had that engine for which is was a true work horse. It held up to any thing we put it through, severe weather, fully loaded car trailer of furniture and a 21ft Sea Ray Ski Boat. I just would like to know why the Big 350 will not be made any more. After having it in a 1992 GMC Sierra, I was totally entusiastic about what the truck could do. Any way, I am just in awe at what it was able to do. If any one has any info, it would be greatly appriciated.

a 350 ain't 5.9 liters either it's 5.7 and the smallest big block is a 366 which is a piece of junk. Don't they still put the old style small blocks in the vans and big trucks?

I think this the same guy thats got the special model ZQ8 S-10 thats wider than a regular S10. :?

my 1992 GMC Sierra had 5.9 350 Big Block

Postby eagle1 » Sun Aug 11, 2002 2:48 pm

Whats up,

I just want to reply. I had a 1992 GMC Sierra (King Cab)Ext Cab long bed. When I bought it in 1992, it had a 5.9liter 350 BIG BLOCK V8.
Guys, I am not playing with you, it really had a 5.9 350 Big Block. It was Vortec's concept. I am telling you, this Big350 was the engine from GMC. There was a 5.9 Big Block V8. I know for sure. Just wanting you guys to know. I mean no offense to any one at all.

Just want you all to know.

Don't cry the new 4.8 ,5.3 and 6.0 truck engine will smoke the old 350 in every way.The 4.8 is like 300ci and it makes 270 hp which is right at what the old 350 Vortec made.

Eagle1-

From all your posts on this board, I have determined that you do not know anything.

5.9 is a 360, not a 350. 350=5.7, I can mathamatically prove it. It is also a small block, not a big block.

Your truck is not an x-cab longbed, no is it 4" wider than a normal S10.

i sell autoparts for a living, if gm did make such a thing, it was pruly a concept, and that is why they no longer make it.
but there is no way to get a 350 to equal 5.9. ur math doesnt make sense.
5.7 350 (gm)
5.8 351 (ford)
5.9 360 (mopar)

if u say they make it, show us. prove us wrong. a build sheet, a pic of the spec sheet on the truck.

then produce some proof to prove me otherwise. some pictures of your x-cab longbed 4" wider S10, or proof that chevy made a "5.9L 350"

back to the original topic: the 350 will still be made in crate motor apps, but will no longer be used in production engines, as the design is getting a bit old, and they are moving towards the new generation LS1 derived smallblocks (5.3, 6.0, etc.)

I have a 5.8 Chevy engine ......but it's a bored over 5.7.

Doesn't Mike 82 tahoe have a 360 Chevy in his truck? Or did he just install a Chrysler 360 engine?

BTW, Ford used to make a 360 back in the day.
I'm going to put some stickers, an aluminum wing and a 5 inch fart can muffler on my 16 second import, then brag to the world it's the fastest thing on wheels.
